Dutchie’s Summer Bed Bondage II & Summer Loving Bed

Dutchie Summer Bed Bondage II and the Dutchie Summer Loving Bed.

Some months ago Dutchie (http://slurl.com/secondlife//30/60/22/) was kind enough to give us two of their sex beds to review—the Dutchie Summer Bed Bondage II and the Dutchie Summer Loving Bed. The beds are similar, so we did most of our testing on the Bondage model, for personal reasons.

For comparison, we introduce The Humm Magazine Don’t-You-Have-Anything-Better-To-Do Chart

* The Sequences reuse existing animations and so are not included in the total animations count.

Both are nice beds, with a nice range of  hetero animations, easy and straightforward to use right out of the box, unusually robust, with a very clean and intuitive menu system.  The animations are very good and largely original, though a few are modifications of existing ones.  The menu is clean, simple, and intuitive, and navigation could hardly be easier. They’re also among the most robust beds we’ve seen and take a minimum of adjustment or tinkering. You won’t find homoerotic or -somes animations here, or special kink aside from the Bondage Bed’s Him Bound and Her Bound, but what’s here is solid and eminently usable and quite affecting. The beds are ideal for general use or as a basic go-to bed.

We should mention right at the start that these beds are mesh, and therefore not suitable for the few people who still use non mesh-enabled viewers. If your viewer isn’t mesh-capable, the beds will still work, but they’ll appear as blobs.

The bed has 8 choices for color, and 4 for the bed post metal. You change cover color by touching the pillows, and metal by touching the head or foot board.

What we especially like about them are:

  • A range of 120 total animations that run the spectrum of  heterosexual love from initial kiss and cuddle up through foreplay, sex, and aftercare, with plenty of stops along the way.
  • the clean and logical design of the menu and scripting.
  • The quality of the animations, which show a special tenderness and nuance and are emotional and expressive without being rough or cruel, even in the BDSM poses.

The beds don’t use pose balls. Instead, you right click on the bed and “sit” and away you go, the lovers already arranged in the first Kiss position. The first avatar to sit on the bed is assigned the female role by default, but that’s easily corrected by hitting the Swap button, which changes the genders for the entire session. There’s no Stop button. You turn off the bed by simply standing up.

An especially nice feature and is that both partners have instant access to the menu at all times and can choose any animation without having to get permission or engage in an after-you-no-after-you battle for control. It’s an example of the intelligent and clean scripting we mentioned.

And we want to give a special appreciation to Dutchie for striving to make her position names clear, descriptive, and understandable. Man on top is called Man On Top. A kneeling blow job is called BJ Knees. A position with the man on the bottom lifting the woman on top of him is called Push Up. Anyone who reads these reviews know what a sore image non-descriptive position names are to us and it’s nice to see someone doing something about it. These menus will be easy to learn.

Menu System

The Main menu gives you these submenus or categories: Kiss, Foreplay, More Foreplay, Even More Foreplay, Sex, More Sex, A Bit More Sex, and the housekeeping buttons Swap- and Swap+ (kind of odd, since there’s only one way to swap genders as far as we know, but…), Adjust, Page- and Page+.

Page +/- takes the place of the usual More–> to take you to a second Main menu page. This second page has buttons for: Even More [sex], Afterwards and Sequences and, for the Bondage bed, the categories Her Bound and Him Bound.

Sequences are long, linked animations that make up a love scene: Hers, His, Rough, Him Tied and Her Tied. The Sequences use pre-existing animations so we don’t count them in the total animation count.

The entire list of animation categories, and the number of animations in each, is as follows:

  1. Kiss (10 animations)
  2. Foreplay (10)
  3. More Foreplay (14)
  4. Even More Foreplay (10)
  5. Sex (10)
  6. More Sex (10)
  7. A Bit More Sex (10)
  8. Even More (10)
  9. Her Bound (13)
  10. Him Bound (13)
  11. 11.  Sequences  (6 multi-animation strings)
  12. 12.  Afterwards (10)

That gives a 120 animations as we count, at a price for the bed of L$5599, or L$46.66 per animation.

We give special kudos to the Her Bound BDSM animations, in which the sub is spread-eagled on the bed as the dom caresses or plays with her. It’s hard to find simple spread eagles in most bondage beds. Also, the series of four BJ animations in the Foreplay menu are especially worthy of mention. We’ve rarely seen better.

With no poseballs, position adjustment is done by hitting Adjust and then using +/-  x, y, and z positioning. We’re not crazy about this “creep” system since the axis you’re adjusting is not always obvious, but it’s less obtrusive and distracting than the usual method of dragging spikes around, and is really a better system for real-time adjustments. In any case, we found Dutchie’s default positions to be some of the best we’ve ever seen and we didn’t have to adjust anything, That just underscores the overall care and quality of the beds and the attention given the basic design.

The menu layout is elegant in its simplicity and keeps the number of submenus to a minimum. There’s no menu tree-climbing and sub-sub-sub-submenus. You pick a category, and all the animations are available on the sub-menu of on the next page. You never have to click more than 3 times.

With all that in its favor, the bed does have some idiosyncrasies…

  • Transitions can be awkward. We’re used to beds in which the avatars suddenly assume a sitting position while the new animation loads, but here, the lovers suddenly stand and place one hand on their cheek and the other on their elbow, as if worried or suffering a sudden toothache. Though these poses don’t last long, it’s still a little odd.
  • The sparseness of the menu can be a little disconcerting. There’s no Options button because there are no Options — no access controls or sounds or expressions. Adjust, which appears on all menus, just lets you adjust positions.
  • The bed had 8 color options which are accessed by clicking on the pillows. This means that should you close the menu during use, you have to click on the foot board or the ground to retrieve it. Clicking on the mattress doesn’t do it.
  • We miss facial expressions. We know that a lot of people don’t like them, but still, having the option would have been nice.
  • And our final nitpick is the way that the Back function, which allows you to go up a step in the menu tree is here replaced by [TOP], which always makes us think it’s a sexual position.

But overall these are nice, solid, heterosexual beds, that despite their simple appearance are quite hot and arousing. They’re easy to operate and trouble-free, and they put Dutchie up in the major sex bed league. They’re more than worthy of your consideration.
