CGI Hentai & the Future of Second Life

Over the last few years, computer generated imagery has reached a state of excellence where it now rivals reality itself in terms of quality and verisimilitude or “realness.” In many cases now, CGI is not just “as good as” reality, but surpasses it, creating a world that seems realer than reality, just as great art can create a world that surpasses the natural world.

So it’s no surprise that CGI is not just being used in legitimate movies, but has also had a huge effect on the always-booming pornography market, especially on the ultra-graphic, super X-rated Japanese porn known as Hentai. Work using the techniques of CGI 3D animation are now producing films that are ultra-pornographic, doing things that reality-based film could never even imagine doing, including identifying and exaggerating some finer points of sexual attraction to produce products that are, to me anyhow, little short of amazing.

Here’s an example, taken off an adult website that features CGI 3D hentai. It’s only three and a half minutes long, but be forewarned that this is XXX and not for minors or for the squeamish or easily offended, and definitely not for work. That being said, follow the link and go to full screen and marvel. CGI 3D Hentai Sampler.

Of course, these are cartoons and not trying to appear “real,” but just the amazingly modeled fluid dynamics of boobs and butt are jaw-dropping and powerfully erotic. Should these artists turn their talents towards making “realistic” movies, there’s no telling what they could produce.

Now let me say right here, that aside from the art and animation, I’m not at all a fan of hentai. They’re dull, very repetitious, screechy as hell, and they all seem to involve rape. Plus, they’re in Japanese.

But the reason I’m calling your attention to CGI 3D animation is because they’re very probably the future of Second Life. These hyper-real, ultra-sexual graphics make our state-of-the-art animations look stiff and contrived, and the quality of CGI 3D can only be the goal of Second Life in the years ahead. Those girly animations is what Virtuality is coming to: that eroticism, that fluidity.

And just as SL sex experiences can eclipse real life ones in several important ways, you have to ask yourself: could these animations be actually better than RL experiences? Will this be the end of real life sex?

Hardly, but it does lead one to speculate on the ultimate future of Second Life.

For instance, they’re expecting the first quantum computers to hit the market in the next 5 years or so. No doubt the first ones will be iffy and not entirely reliable, but so was the internet and the cell phone. They’ll get it down, giving us computers with unbelievable storage capacity and incredible speed. No doubt they’ll have to launch a new version of FireStorm to adapt to the gushing torrents of data Quants will put out, but we’re sure they’re up to it.

The speed and capacity of Quants will demand more input-output volume, and typing and clicking just won’t cut it anymore. We can only type and click so fast so we’ll need for data output from the user. Actually, we already have a ready stream. Our bodies, our movements, our expressions, all of these somatic signals will be instantly communicated to our avatars, who will mimic them, and thus become true extensions of ourselves.

The Virtual Reality people are already experimenting with facial expression monitors that use lasers and lidar to monitor facial muscles and skin movement and tension to tell when we laugh, smile, grimace, swear. Strap one of those on as a helmet and with some special software your computer can now tell a chuckle from a guffaw, a yawn from a look of horror.

Might as well add on a harness with sleeves for detecting arm and hand motion, and fingers too. Add a  VR headset so we can get rid of our computer screens, and now we’re getting somewhere.

The next step will take some doing, because the next step involves developing a cheap, safe, and (hopefully) foolproof body-computer interface to connect our central nervous system to our Quants. This is some way off, although they’re getting better at distinguishing and interpreting the tiny, minuscule currents in our brain and nerves as they fire. Maybe with nano-technology we could chieve the resolution we’d need to send and decipher specific sensations and emotions.

We want to interface our nervous system with our computers because we want, ultimately, to experience our Virtuality as Reality, which means we must feel it and taste it and smell it. With our bio-computer neural interface, we can now create the sexual experience electronically, the heady feeling of falling in love, of being frightened, pleased, or happy. Hooked up to our computers and living a life we’ve chosen like a years-long movie from a catalog, we romp with hobbits or lead barbarian hordes, live the refinements of Victorian England or fly to the edge of the galaxy. We’ve freed ourselves from the ultimate burden of life, which isn’t death or even taxes, but reality itself.

Okay… I’m not the first to have this vision of a world where everyone’s plugged into their own computer, starring as the hero or heroine in their own life. It’s usually a very dystopian vision but who can say for sure? We live in a world that’s lost its purpose, where “progress” is a joke and only makes things worse, where our highest aspirations now are simply to own more stuff than the other guy, and where things seem to be permanently stacked against us.

Why not make the leap to Virtuality? You might even get a chance to boff one of those CGI 3D girls.
